BEGUR – Location
Located in the heart of Empordà, the city of Begur and its beaches are one of the most beautiful places on the Costa Brava. The city’s boundary takes in the impressive hills of the Begur Massif and a vast coastline bathed by the Mediterranean Sea. The old town of Begur, home to many monuments left as legacy of the great moments of the history of the city, with its eight coves and small beaches and the Romanesque center of the village of Esclanyà, make and its incomparable natural environment an unbeatable place to visit .
Beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava in Spain Begur
The beaches and coves of Begur Point …
• Platja del Raco
• Illa Roja
• Her Riera
• Sa Tuna
• Platja Fonda
• Cala Malaret
I love these beaches.
One of our favorite activities is the section walk of the Cami de Ronda that winds around the Begur promontory.
Each corner you round brings another beautiful cove with a beautiful beach.
Interestingly (well, maybe) – a lot of the 1959 film ‘Suddenly, Last Summer’ with Elizabeth Taylor was filmed in Begur and Pals.
Begur – PLATJA DEL RACO
Platja del Raco is at the southern end of the 5 km sandy beach that integrates the beach of Pals and the beach of L’Estartit.
Lying on the sands range of Platja del Raco offers cracking views of the Begur promontory to your right, and L’Estartit supported by the Montgrí massif and led by the Medes Islands marine reserve on your left.
Begur – ILLA ROJA
Illa Roja is a perfect Costa Brava beach … pine trees plunging cliffs give way to a beach of golden sand and the blue of the seas.
A long time ago, it used to be two beaches, but the rugged promontory that separated the two creeks has since crumbled to the sea, leaving a dominant reddish rock (which gives the beach its name) at the water’s edge , which offers a little shade welcome on the hot days of summer.
If you want to be in harmony with nature … this is the beach for you … Illa Roja is a beach of nudists (but do not hesitate to keep your clothes if you wish).
Begur – SA RIERA
Sa Riera is one of the largest beaches on Begur Point.
A river crosses the beach (which explains its name, Riera means torrent).
Behind the beach is the town of Sa Riera.
His Riera received a blue flag in 2007, 2008 and 2009. It was not awarded one in 2010, but we are not aware of the reasons for that.
Want to know more about Sa Riera?
Begur – AIGUAFREDA
The small cove Aiguafreda has no beach. Instead, a concrete platform (it is more picturesque than it may seem) was built to serve as a boat dock and provide a space for sunbathing.
Aiguafreda is great diving spot (it’s really easy to jump on the rocks on either side of the creek in the beautiful clear blue water)
Begur – SA TUNA
Sa Tuna is a relatively small pebble beach in front of a few taveranas (one of which is the fantastic Sa Tuna Hotel Restaurant) and some beautiful converted fishermen’s houses set in a deep cove with a background of pine-covered hills.
Development has encroached on Sa Tuna in recent years in the form of several blocks of flats, but fortunately they are of low height and relatively attractive. Also, you can not see them from the beach or approaching the beach while you are walking around the tip. In fact, you are really aware of them if you drive to Sa Tuna.
The good thing about buildings is that when they were built
